3 Tips for Efficient Residential Air Conditioning

When we consider residential air conditioning for our homes one of the primary concerns should be the efficiency of our AC systems. A system that is inefficient will not be able to provide the cooling we need at reasonable price. If you’re too scared to use your AC system because it’s expensive to run, it’s of little use to you during the cooling season. There is no need to put up with a system that racks up high energy bills when used. Here are three tips that you can use to enjoy more efficient air conditioning in your home.

1. Always Choose Central Air Conditioning:

Any residential air conditioning service expert will tell you that central air conditioning is the best option. If you have window mounted AC units or portable air conditioners to cool your rooms, you need to understand their drawbacks. A central air conditioner system is designed to work at efficiency levels that other methods are not even designed for. If a window AC unit is not the correct size for the room it’s located in; it can impact energy efficiency considerably. This situation becomes even worse if multiple window AC units are being used in different rooms and the energy bills will rise.

2. Use a Correctly Sized AC System:

The air conditioner in your home should be the right size to cool the space effectively and efficiently. If the system is too small for your home, it will not be able to cool the space and will run constantly to compensate. If the AC system is too large, it may short cycle, which means it will start and stop constantly. Both of these problems cause inefficient cooling, excessive wear and tear on your equipment and eventually breakdowns. Always ensure that you have a professional measure your home and choose an AC system that will service the space efficiently.

3. Always Check the SEER Rating:

The Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio or SEER is a measurement of how efficient an AC system is. If your air conditioner has a higher SEER, it will usually cost more to buy initially, but it will cost less to run over an extended period of time. A SEER rating of over 16 will offer the best investments for energy efficient cooling and lower energy bills.
